How to Post

To Post You Must. . .

  1. Have a CUNY Academic Commons account. (see instructions below).
  2. Have joined the site (see the instructions below)
  3. Be logged into the Commons (log in at the top of all pages or here).

Sign up for the Commons

To post, you will first need to sign up for a CUNY Commons account. You must sign up with your CUNY email address, although you can change it later. 

  1. Follow this link to sign up: https://commons.gc.cuny.edu/register/
  2. Choose a username (consider a non-identifiable username for privacy; you can try this username generator: www.spinxo.com)
  3. Provide your CUNY email address.
  4. Choose a password.
  5. Choose a name. Pseudonyms are encouraged for privacy, especially witty literary names—simply notify your instructor about the name by email.
  6. Check privacy settings.
  7. Complete the sign up at the bottom of the page (you do not need to create a site for this course, although you’re welcome to experiment with the Commons in any way you choose).
  8. You will receive an email containing an activation link. Check your SPAM filter if you don’t see the email after several minutes.
  9. Contact your instructor if you have any questions (contact information is on the About page).

Join the Site

Once you have a Commons account, you can join the course website as a contributor.

  1. Log into Commons: https://2020hebert351.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-login.php.
  2. After logging in, navigate to the course homepage: https://2020hebert351.commons.gc.cuny.edu.
  3. Locate the Add Me button below the search bar (located in right column on a computer, or the bottom of the page on a mobile device)
  4. Enter this password and click Add Me: hebert
  5. The page will notify when you are added.

Create, Edit and Publish Posts

Once you’ve joined the site, you’ll be able to see behind the scenes of the course website. You’ll be able to create and edit posts. You will not be able to edit anyone else’s posts.

  1. Log into the Commons: https://2020hebert351.commons.gc.cuny.edu/wp-login.php
  2. From the Dashboard, navigate to the Posts page (link is located in the left toolbar).
  3. To create a post, click Add New.
  4. Enter a descriptive title and and your text, links and any additional media you want to add to your post.
  5. When you’re ready, publish the piece or save it as a draft to edit later.
